Chiropractic FAQs

What is a Chiropractor?
Chiropractors are licensed doctors that specialize in the reduction of spinal misalignments called vertebral subluxations.

Vertebral subluxations create an interference within the nervous system and how well it functions. Inflammation of the joint, the nerve root and the surrounding tissues as well as a decrease in motion are some of the effects of these subluxations and if left untreated, can lead to joint degeneration within the spine. Chiropractors are specially trained to use their hands or other instruments to carefully adjust the joints of the body and spine to restore spinal alignment and improve nervous system function

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

The chiropractic adjustment is a very specific and gentle treatment to correct nerve interference throughout the spine and body. A gentle, high-velocity thrust is applied to the vertebra in the spine which is oftentimes accompanied by an audible “pop” or “crack” similar to cracking your knuckles. There is gas that builds up within your joints and when you hear the “pop” or “crack” from the adjustment, that is the audible release of the built-up gas called a cavitation.

Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe Does it hurt?
This is a common question in regards to chiropractic adjustments. Yes, the chiropractic adjustment is very safe when used appropriately. Dr. Joe has been trained for years to give a very specific, gentle yet powerful adjustment. The chiropractic adjustment that Dr. Joe delivers is often by hand but because he understands that not everybody likes that, he has the newest technology in adjusting instruments and equipment to deliver the chiropractic adjustment in different ways to give each patient exactly what they need and when they need it.
How often do I get adjusted?

This varies depending on the severity and how long the condition has been there. At your second visit, the doctor will go over all information from the initial evaluation so you have a good understanding of the condition. The frequency of visits can range from three times per week to once per month, it really just depends on what is going on.

Can I come in and get adjusted whenever I want to?

We do require scheduled appointments in order to be seen by the doctor so we may be respectful of everyone’s time and schedules. We do offer same day appointments and try to be as flexible as possible so we can accommodate your schedule.

How Much Will It Cost to See a Chiropractor?
This is always a difficult question to answer. Dr. Joe looks at each person individually and customizes his care for what they need so what one person needs may be different from the next. Depending on the severity and how long the condition has been there changes the cost. The expected range for a typical visit will be between $50-$80. However, since most people come in more than once we offer discounted rates as well. First time consultations are always free of charge where you will sit down with the doctor to determine if chiropractic is right for you. The initial evaluation ranges between $65-$155 depending on what is needed.
Do you take insurance?
Yes! We are contracted with several different insurance companies such as Anthem Blue Cross and United Healthcare. But since every insurance plan is different, we ask that you bring your insurance card with you to your appointment and we can check on any chiropractic benefits you may have. If your insurance does not help cover the cost of your care, we offer different discounted options as well.
What ages do you treat?

People of all ages can benefit from chiropractic. Dr. Joe has personally adjusted babies as young as 1-hour old and has adjusted people well into their 90’s. No matter the age, having a properly functioning nervous system will only benefit you.

What conditions do you treat?

We have seen such amazing results with a wide range of conditions. Often times someone will come in with low back pain and suddenly start to see improvements in areas of their health that they hadn’t mentioned before such as their allergies or headaches. We call that the side-effects of chiropractic. Most often we see conditions like: back pain, neck pain, headaches, neurological conditions, digestion problems, arthritis and joint pain, sciatica, bulging discs, herniated discs, scoliosis, shoulder pain, knee and foot pain, asthma, pregnancy.

Do I need x-rays?

Not everyone is in need of x-rays, however there is only so much that chiropractors can feel with their hands. We believe that you deserve the best care so we won’t guess with your health. Being able to see the details of your spine and how it functions allows us to provide you with the best care possible. Our office is conveniently equipped with the newest state of the art digital x-ray equipment so you won’t need to leave the office for your x-rays.

Can chiropractic help with pregnancy and children?

Absolutely! Dr. Joe has gone through extensive training to become certified in the Webster Technique for prenatal and perinatal chiropractic care. Dr. Joe also has specially designed tables and equipment to help with pregnant moms. During pregnancy, the baby needs room to grow but if the mom’s pelvis and spine are not functioning properly then there may be unwanted stress on the baby and mom. It is best to see the chiropractor even before getting pregnant but even more while the mom’s body is changing rapidly over the coming months.

Children of all ages benefit from chiropractic care the most because they don’t have the years of stress put on them as adults do. They are growing and changing at such a rapid pace that it is very important to make sure that their spines and nervous system are growing properly.

Why Should I See a Chiropractor After a Car Accident?

A car accident, even a minor one, can cause a lot of stress to your body. Muscles, ligaments, and bones can be strained or sprained in the impact. This can lead to misalignments in the spine and other joints of the body. These misalignments can cause pain, inflammation, and nerve irritation. Problems may not show up right away but could lead to pain and disability later on if left untreated. A chiropractor can help to find these misalignments and correct them. This can lead to reduced pain, improved range of motion, and improved function.

What Does a Chiropractor Do After a Car Accident?
After a car accident, a chiropractor will perform a thorough examination. This will include taking a health history, doing a detailed physical exam, and ordering imaging studies such as x-rays or an MRI. Once the exam is complete, the chiropractor will develop a treatment plan to address your specific needs. This may involve spinal adjustments, manual therapies, exercises, and lifestyle changes. The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, improve function, and help you return to your normal activities as soon as possible.
How Can Chiropractic Care Help After a Car Accident?
Chiropractic care can be very helpful in relieving pain and restoring function after a car accident. A chiropractor performs a thorough evaluation to identify any areas of dysfunction or injury. Once these are identified, a treatment plan is designed to address the specific needs of the individual. Treatment may include adjustments, therapy, exercises, and other modalities to help the body heal and function optimally. Spinal adjustments help to correct misalignments in the spine and other joints. This can lead to reduced inflammation and nerve irritation. Manual therapies help to release tight muscles and reduce pain. Exercises help to strengthen muscles and improve range of motion. Lifestyle changes, such as improving posture and ergonomics, help to prevent future problems.

A chiropractor can help to diagnose and treat whiplash. Another possibility is that you may have suffered a more serious neck injury, such as a herniated disc or spinal cord injury. Will Injury Symptoms Show Immediately After an Auto Accident?

For example, it is possible to sustain a concussion or other head injury without having any symptoms at first. It is important to be aware of potential signs and symptoms of concussion, such as headache, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. Other injuries, such as whiplash, may not cause symptoms until days or weeks after the accident.
