Chiropractic FAQs
What is a Chiropractor?
Vertebral subluxations create an interference within the nervous system and how well it functions. Inflammation of the joint, the nerve root and the surrounding tissues as well as a decrease in motion are some of the effects of these subluxations and if left untreated, can lead to joint degeneration within the spine. Chiropractors are specially trained to use their hands or other instruments to carefully adjust the joints of the body and spine to restore spinal alignment and improve nervous system function
What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
The chiropractic adjustment is a very specific and gentle treatment to correct nerve interference throughout the spine and body. A gentle, high-velocity thrust is applied to the vertebra in the spine which is oftentimes accompanied by an audible “pop” or “crack” similar to cracking your knuckles. There is gas that builds up within your joints and when you hear the “pop” or “crack” from the adjustment, that is the audible release of the built-up gas called a cavitation.

How often do I get adjusted?
This varies depending on the severity and how long the condition has been there. At your second visit, the doctor will go over all information from the initial evaluation so you have a good understanding of the condition. The frequency of visits can range from three times per week to once per month, it really just depends on what is going on.
Can I come in and get adjusted whenever I want to?
We do require scheduled appointments in order to be seen by the doctor so we may be respectful of everyone’s time and schedules. We do offer same day appointments and try to be as flexible as possible so we can accommodate your schedule.

What conditions do you treat?
We have seen such amazing results with a wide range of conditions. Often times someone will come in with low back pain and suddenly start to see improvements in areas of their health that they hadn’t mentioned before such as their allergies or headaches. We call that the side-effects of chiropractic. Most often we see conditions like: back pain, neck pain, headaches, neurological conditions, digestion problems, arthritis and joint pain, sciatica, bulging discs, herniated discs, scoliosis, shoulder pain, knee and foot pain, asthma, pregnancy.
Do I need x-rays?
Not everyone is in need of x-rays, however there is only so much that chiropractors can feel with their hands. We believe that you deserve the best care so we won’t guess with your health. Being able to see the details of your spine and how it functions allows us to provide you with the best care possible. Our office is conveniently equipped with the newest state of the art digital x-ray equipment so you won’t need to leave the office for your x-rays.
Can chiropractic help with pregnancy and children?
Absolutely! Dr. Joe has gone through extensive training to become certified in the Webster Technique for prenatal and perinatal chiropractic care. Dr. Joe also has specially designed tables and equipment to help with pregnant moms. During pregnancy, the baby needs room to grow but if the mom’s pelvis and spine are not functioning properly then there may be unwanted stress on the baby and mom. It is best to see the chiropractor even before getting pregnant but even more while the mom’s body is changing rapidly over the coming months.
Children of all ages benefit from chiropractic care the most because they don’t have the years of stress put on them as adults do. They are growing and changing at such a rapid pace that it is very important to make sure that their spines and nervous system are growing properly.

Why Should I See a Chiropractor After a Car Accident?
A car accident, even a minor one, can cause a lot of stress to your body. Muscles, ligaments, and bones can be strained or sprained in the impact. This can lead to misalignments in the spine and other joints of the body. These misalignments can cause pain, inflammation, and nerve irritation. Problems may not show up right away but could lead to pain and disability later on if left untreated. A chiropractor can help to find these misalignments and correct them. This can lead to reduced pain, improved range of motion, and improved function.

Will Injury Symptoms Show Immediately After an Auto Accident?
Unfortunately, many people do not realize they are injured until hours or even weeks after an accident. This is because adrenaline and other stress hormones can mask the pain of injuries sustained in a car accident. However, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible after an accident, even if you don’t think you’re injured, as some injuries may not present themselves until later.
For example, it is possible to sustain a concussion or other head injury without having any symptoms at first. It is important to be aware of potential signs and symptoms of concussion, such as headache, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. Other injuries, such as whiplash, may not cause symptoms until days or weeks after the accident. If you hit your head in an accident or are experiencing pain or other symptoms after an auto accident, it is important to seek medical attention so that the cause can be properly diagnosed and treated.
